What is MDF?

Our Medium Density Fiberboard (MDF) is a unique composite wood material crafted from a blend of sawdust and fibers from both softwoods and hardwoods. These components are mixed with resin and then formed under extreme temperature and pressure, resulting in a highly pliable and workable sheet material.

While there's a common perception that real wood is superior to particleboard and MDF, the truth is that it depends on the specific requirements of your project. MDF often performs as well as, or even better than, plywood for many applications. The key is understanding the needs of your project and selecting the right material accordingly.

What can you make with MDF?

It should be noted that MDF is not ideal for external environments where it’d be subjected to the elements, as the material will warp and quickly fall apart. Although if you need a more accessible material for furniture, custom sound systems, or other indoor application, MDF will save you tons of cash in the long run and provide the same quality as a similar strength wood.

If you’re worried about off-gassing and potential liquid spillage ruining your finish, our MDF is treatable for a variety of purposes, such as fire resistance, liquid sealing, and different paints

Variations in MDF Finish

Due to ongoing global supply chain shortages, there may be variations in the color and texture of your custom cut MDF finish. Some MDF variants might be darker with a slight sheen, as shown in the images here. These darker variations will also feature a dark cut edge and a different edge cut finish compared to our traditional MDF.

These finish variations will not affect the integrity of your parts. However, please note that if you order multiple MDF parts, there may be slight differences in color and finish among them.
